Bretton grew up with a love of movement, particularly through dance. She began practicing yoga at the age of 11, and the practice has since become the one constant throughout every change. She began assisting classes in 2012 and teaching Vinyasa yoga to adults in 2013. By chance, she first taught yoga to children soon after, and, discovering she had no clue what she was doing in the realm of kids yoga, quickly signed up for her first kids yoga teacher training through Budding Yogis with Linda Feldman in 2014. The aspects of teaching yoga and mindfulness to children that speak to Bretton most are the emphasis on enjoying the creativity of process and prioritizing learning in an interactive, lighthearted, and fun environment that allows the child to express him or herself fully. Bretton prioritizes holding safe space for children to be themselves and be seen, and she thrives in alternative learning environments with outside-the-box thinkers and movers.
In 2016, Bretton moved overseas, where she furthered her studies in yoga, Reiki, and Ayurveda in India, and taught on a yoga and meditation retreat in Cambodia. She currently practices Mysore style Ashtanga, and remains grateful for the guidance of Michael Joel Hall, Magnolia Zuniga, and Sharath Jois in her personal practice. Upon returning to the US in 2017, she began working with theRadiant Child Yoga community, and completed Levels 1-3 of RCY teacher training with Lisa Danahy. She is in the process of training to teach yoga to children with special needs. Currently, Bretton teaches babies to adults throughout the DC metropolitan area in studios, schools, and an outpatient treatment center for teens.
In addition to 200-hour RYT, Bretton is certified to teach Kids Zumba and Barre. She is also a Reiki healer (Usui method, Levels I/II). When not on her mat, Bretton loves to paint, cook, and hike with her dog, an Indian rescue.
