Keep it Fun, Keep it Yoga
Use Body-Mind-Spirit Instructions.
This opens up awareness on all levels.
Body Awareness
Yoga means the union of body, mind and spirit. So when we share yoga with children, it must be fun, that’s for sure. And it must also be yoga. It must do what yoga does: keep the body/mind/spirit/connection. Here are some helpful ways to do that….
Use clear, confident, straight-forward instruction (“Everyone stand up.”).- Weave together story line and instruction.
- Show poses as you instruct, most of the time they can follow your lead.
- Describe instruction personally (“Bring your hands to your ankles.”)
Mind Awareness
- Eyes focused on still-point for balance
- Eyes closed and focused on heart center/Ajna center (between eyebrows)
- Inward focus on breath, feelings, internal movement of energy
Spirit Awareness
- Noticing the breath as it comes in and out
- Using the breath to help through a hard exercise or pose
- Inspiration through Affirmative Song
